About the role

Regulatory compliance is fundamental to Apus's success, and our Compliance team plays a critical role in ensuring our products and operations meet the highest standards. The team's expertise in problem-solving and digital testing is essential to this effort.

We seek a Payments Compliance Manager passionate about building a robust compliance function and shaping the future of our innovative product offerings. This is a hands-on role with significant ownership, requiring a deep understanding of consumer protection compliance and the ability to provide practical guidance to the business on regulatory requirements and necessary controls.

Your roles & responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a robust AML/CTF framework: Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive AML/CTF policies, procedures, and handbooks to guarantee regulatory compliance across all business operations.
  • Proactively address evolving regulatory requirements: Monitor and ensure the effective implementation of new or amended Compliance/AML/CTF regulations and guidance from regulatory bodies (e.g., FINTRAC, Bank of Canada), coordinating efforts across internal departments to meet evolving obligations.
  • Ensure program effectiveness through ongoing monitoring and testing: Develop and execute compliance testing programs, regularly evaluating internal controls to identify areas for enhancement, address gaps, and ensure continuous improvement of the company’s Compliance/AML programs and standards.
  • Maintain a comprehensive regulatory inventory: Manage the AML Regulatory Compliance Management Framework (RCM), ensuring the regulatory/guidance inventory is current and accessible. Curate and maintain up-to-date reference materials for AML legislation, providing relevant resources to applicable business lines.
  • Oversee daily AML/CTF operations: Manage daily AML/CTF activities, encompassing customer screening, onboarding processes, and ongoing due diligence.
  • Provide expert compliance guidance: Offer proactive compliance advice and support to sales and operations teams, enabling them to meet regulatory requirements and adhere to internal policies and procedures.
  • Develop and deliver effective AML/ATF training programs: Create and maintain AML/ATF training materials and resources. Collaborate with HR to design and implement impactful compliance training programs, including onboarding training for new employees and ongoing training for all staff, managers, and the board of directors.
  • Provide regulatory input on new products and initiatives: Offer constructive regulatory input on new product offerings and business initiatives, including assessments of changes to AML legislation, regulations, and guidelines. Recommend and implement necessary adjustments to policies, processes, and programs.
  • Ensure accurate and timely regulatory reporting: Ensure accurate and timely completion of all reporting obligations (including audit requirements) to regulatory bodies (e.g., FINTRAC), providing necessary information as required.
  • Provide regular compliance updates to senior management: Deliver quarterly updates to senior management regarding the operation of AML/CTF programs and provide regulatory compliance reports, highlighting areas for improvement.
  • Develop and execute the company’s compliance roadmap: Collaborate with senior management to develop, implement, and execute a strategic compliance roadmap aligned with business objectives and evolving regulatory expectations.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Extensive Regulatory Compliance Expertise: Possess 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance within a highly regulated financial services industry, regulator, or government department, encompassing internal/external audit and risk management.
  • Proven Compliance Leadership: Demonstrated experience as a Head of Compliance, Compliance Officer, MLRO, or in a comparable leadership role.
  • Professional AML/CTF Certification: Hold recognized ACAMS certifications, demonstrating expertise in anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing.
  • Deep Understanding of Compliance Frameworks: Possess in-depth knowledge of Compliance/AML/CTF methodologies, programs, and regulatory risk management principles.
  • Expertise in Relevant Legislation: Demonstrate a thorough understanding of federal and provincial legislation pertaining to cross-border payments and remittances, credit/prepaid cards, consumer lending, consumer protection, and other relevant financial regulations.
  • Regulatory Interaction Experience: Proven experience interacting with regulatory bodies such as FINTRAC and the Bank of Canada.
  • Meticulous Attention to Detail: Exhibit strong attention to detail and possess excellent documentation skills.
  • Advanced Analytical and Investigative Abilities: Demonstrate advanced analytical, research, and investigative skills, including the ability to effectively research and interpret complex laws and regulations.
  • Proactive Project Leadership: Demonstrate the ability to take ownership, lead projects proactively, and independently drive initiatives to successful completion.
  • Effective Leadership and Self-Motivation: Possess effective leadership qualities and demonstrate a high degree of self-motivation.

  • Knowledge, understanding, and experience of payment networks such as SWIFT, correspondent banking, AMEX, MasterCard, Visa, Interac (Canada), etc.
  • Knowledge of the Retail Payments Activity Act/Regulations

We are looking for a Head of Engineering who possesses the expertise to build exceptional engineering teams. This individual will seamlessly blend technical oversight and people leadership for significant projects. He or She must also possess hands-on front-end, or backend, or full stack development experience, excellent communication skills, and thrive in collaboration with Product Owners and Business Heads.

Your roles & responsibilities

  • Owning the product development and platform architecture with a key focus on quality control and code optimization
  • Influencing best practices, developing standard operating procedures (SOP), Manuals, and helping to ensure best practices are followed across the company
  • Optimizing and reviewing the performance of teams, with an aim to increase the quality of engineering as a functional leader
  • Actively involved in the hiring process to scale the team

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or above) in Computer Science/Computer Engineering/Mathematics/Physics/Statistics, etc.
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on low latency, distributed systems
  • Experience building and scaling high achieving engineering teams, with 1+ years of experience managing and mentoring a team of developers within a fast-growing organization
